- CHEYENNE: SEASON 1 - DVD REVIEW

- Howdy all,
I'm coming at you with a review that as a fan of things Western
I thought you might enjoy. This review is not by me, but by a
friend named Tim Lasiuta. If you are hesitating in buying your
copy of Cheyenne on DVD, I hope this will sway you over. If you
haven't seen the show in years--or if you've NEVER seen it--let
me tell you that it is worth every minute spent watching it.
Clint's presence adds a very special touch to the entire series,
and his attention to detail and insistence that it stay realistic
is what in my opinion made these show the classic that it is.
The only thing I don't personally agree with is what is stated
in the review that Have Gun Will Travel is a better show. While
I do enjoy HGWT, I enjoyed Cheyenne more. I guess maybe I'm just
prejudiced!
Here's the review. I hope you enjoy it.

CHEYENNE, First
season
Theres something special about Cheyenne. Watching the series,
I was struck by the quality of both the classic series and legendary
actor, Clint Walker.
- The cover to the disc is indicative of the
star. Tall. Handsome. Confident. Dangerous. And the episodes
that I viewed again were reminders of a time that will never
come again. The premiere episode, Mountain Fortress
takes Cheyenne into a fortress guarded by James Garner
masquerading as good Samaritan, who is really after a cavalry
officer. A bad James Garner? Yeah, he did it well.
And Clint sparkled in this hero done good for separated spouses.
The rest of the episodes include Julesburg, The Argonauts, Border
Showdown, The Outlander, The Travelers, The Strom Riders, Rendezvous
At Red Rock, and The Last Train.
-
- While not quite as good as Have Gun
Will Travel, it is a different style of show. Cheyenne
travels with LQ Jones and encounters Comanches, pilgrims, the
Capulets, dangerous cowboys, prostitutes, crooked land barons,
and Indian war parties as he travels the west, careful not to
stay too long in one place.
- What I found particularly cool about the
show from a production viewpoint was the writers used in the
show. Alan LeMay, Roy Huggins, James Gunn, Dean Weisner, B Traven
(a la The Treasure of Sierra Madre), and Charles Lang. Outstanding
all the way through.
-
- As a special feature, Clint Walker is interviewed
in The Lonely Gunfighter: The Legacy of Cheyenne.
Great stuff from a great actor. Kirby Jonas alerted us months
ago that this was coming out, and its worth every month
of delay.

- I remain,
- A fan of the genre
